‘Political tussle sidelining real issues’

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The tussle for political power in the State has resulted in the sidelining of the burning issues of the day such as farmers’ suicide and escalating prices of essential commodities, General Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress H.V. Ananthasubba Rao said.

Demands

Speaking at the State-level convention of the Joint Committee of Trade Unions here on Monday, he said that workers from Karnataka will participate in the nation-wide agitation on December 4 and 5 to press for 18 demands, including a comprehensive policy to halt price rise, ensure better public distribution system and control outsourcing of jobs. Protests will be held on both days in all district and taluk centres, he added. Though the Supreme Court had imposed severe restrictions on the rights of workers to strike work, workers will have to find ways of protecting their rights, he said. All major trade unions including Centre for Indian Trade Unions, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Trade Union Coordination Centre and United Trade Union Centre (Lenin Sarani) participated in the convention.
