Ranga Reddy upsets Hyderabad

VIJAYAWADA: Ranga Reddy ousted defending champion Hyderabad 3-2 in the men’s final of the Stag 31st AP inter-district table tennis championship at the DRRMC indoor stadium here on Monday.

Hyderabad’s Vignay Reddy won the first singles defeating A. Umesh Kumar 7-11, 7-11, 11-5, 14-12, 11-5.

However, Ranga Reddy bounced back with Sanjeev Reddy and A. V. Anish registering comfortable wins over V. Ajay Kumar and Vishal Reddy. Hyderabad’s Vignay Reddy drew parity by outplaying Sanjeev Reddy 12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9. In the decider,

Umesh scored straight three-game victory over Ajay Kumar 11-8, 11-6, 13-11 to enable his team to emerge victorious.

D. Rishi Choudary of Vijayawada will lead the Andhra Cricket Association’s u-17 team in the Vijay Merchant Trophy Elite ‘B’ tournament to be held at Kolkata from December 10 to 27.
