Karnatak University moves up

Mysore: Karnatak (Dharwad) registered a facile 3-0 win over Madurai Kamaraj and entered the pre-quarterfinals on the inaugural day of the South Zone inter-university men’s tennis championship at the SJCE courts here on Monday.

In a spate of walk-overs in the first round, 15 teams did not turn up, which left only 22 teams in the fray.

The results: Third round: Karnatak (Dharwad) bt Madurai Kamaraj 3-0.

Second round: Dr. NTR H.S. (A.P) bt Raji Gandhi H.S. (Bangalore) 3-1; Kerala bt M.S. University (Tirunelveli) 3-0; Acharaya Nagarjuna (A.P.) bt Pondicherry 3-0; Bharathiar (Coimbatore) bt Tumkur 3-1; VTU (Belgaum) w/o NIT (Kozhikode); Karnatak (Dharwad) w/o Periyar (Salem); Madurai Kamaraj w/o Kakattya (Gulbarga).

Unfinished match: Mysore vs. Annamalai (Annamalainagar) 2-2 (last reverse singles stopped due to bad light).
