ENERGETIC: The gathering at Chinnara Habba at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday.

Bangalore: A game show at the Chinnara Habba in Kanteerva Stadium here had children roll the dice and the parents act as pawns. The four-day event, inaugurated on Thursday, is a rich medley of fun and games for children, with many stalls selling books, learning tools, toys, stationery, art and craft material, clothes, furniture for children, diapers, computers and the like. There was not much of a crowd on the first day. Perhaps, it was because Thursday was a week day.

The awareness theme for this year’s Chinnara Habba was “Say No to Plastics” and it was obvious that the organisers had taken some steps to ensure that the children who visited the event would get some information — a stall put up by the voluntary organisation, Greenpeace, had posters and pamphlets on the harm plastic is causing the environment.

Some stalls were also selling eco-friendly products and the food court, which is usually littered with plastic bags and cups, was clean. However, one could catch a blur and hear a rustle of plastic here and there — there were plastic cups being used for beverages and a few stalls were using those plastic bags for packaging.

Otherwise, there were a few attractions for children — a close to seven-foot long Gulliver and little Lilliputs were one of them. Considering video games are a craze among the children, the organisers had put up play stations for them [children] to spend time.

Apart from a game show on the lines of snakes and ladders, where prizes could be won, a drawing competition, talent hunt, “cultural dais” to showcase children’s talent and a catwalk by mothers and their children are the highlights this year.
