ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha District Panchayat has appealed to the Union and State governments to set aside adequate funds in the forthcoming Union Budget for the speedy completion of the inordinately delayed Alappuzha Bypass. In a meeting of the district panchayat convened here on Friday, members pointed out that work on the bypass was delayed for over two decades. Citing the action council that was recently formed to fight for the completion of the bypass, the members resolved that steps would be taken to pressurize the State and Union governments to allocate the necessary funds for the work in the budget. The district panchayat has also decided to contact all MPs from the State to take up the issue with the Union government apart from contacting MLAs concerned to raise the issue with the State government as well. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
