To make inroads into the U.S. markets

CHENNAI: Vestas RRB India, a leading manufacturer of wind turbines, announced on Friday its expansion plans into the North American wind energy market by exporting wind electric generators (WEGs) to Canada.

Addressing presspersons here, Sarvesh Kumar, Deputy Managing Director, Vestas RRB, said the company had ambitious plans to tap export markets and the plan was to make inroads into the U.S.

With total wind power capacity of 1,451 MW by the end of 2006, Canada was emerging as one of the potential markets for wind power generation, according to Jean-Pierre Hamel, Consul and Trade Commissioner of Canada, who unveiled the first WEG of Vestas RRB to be exported to Canada. The Canadian Government has taken steps to facilitate wind energy deployment and has set targets that will see Canada’s installed wind energy capacity increase by at least six fold in the next eight years. Vestas RRB is in an advanced phase of commissioning its new WEG blades and controllers facility in Chennai. The funds are used in the new manufacturing facilities in Chennai and New Delhi and also in infrastructure development for wind farms, he said.
