MANJERI: Palakkad came up with a gallant performance to hold defending champion Thiruvananthapuram to a goalless draw in a pool ‘A’ match of the 37th State boy’s junior hockey tournament at the GBHS ground here on Friday. However, last year’s runner-up Thrissur qualified for the semifinal by topping pool ‘D’. Thrissur blanked Kottayam and Kasargod by identical margin of 3-0 to make grade. In other matches, Kannur crushed Kozhikode 5-0, Ernakulam squeezed out a solitary goal win over Kollam and Alappuzha defeated Pathanamthitta 2-1. The results: Pool ‘A’: Alappuzha 2 (Jibin 22nd & Alex 25th ) bt Pathanamthitta 1 (Sreejith 4th); Palakkad drew with Thiruvananthapuram 0-0. Pool ‘B’: Kannur 5 (Ashwin Raj 13th &20th, P.P.
