Kerala corners glory with overall championship

KOLLAM: Kerala won the overall championship in the ICSE/ISC all-India schools athletic meet which concluded at the Lal Bahadur stadium here on Friday.

Kerala logged 157.5 points to finish first followed by Bihar with 64 and Uttar Pradesh with 48 points. The highlight of the final day was the double won by Nirumpama Sundarraj (Kar) in the junior girls’ category.

Boys: Seniors: 200m: Rahul Kumar (Bih) 24.3s; 1,500m: P.R.Vijesh (Ker) 4:43.20; Triple jump: Amit Roshan Tigga (Bih) 12.49m; 100m hurdles: K.T. Joseph (Ker) 14.9s; 5km walk: Ram Singh Yadav (UP) 29:07.00; Javelin throw: H. Mohanty (Ori) 38.45m.

Juniors: 200m: Kota Varun (Bih) 24.7s; 1,500m: P.R. Vijesh (Ker) 4:41.20; 100m hurdles: Dhananjay S. Chogle (Mah) 15.3s; Triple jump: Pradeep Sarkar (Ori) 12.38s; Javelin throw: Tirupathi Hantal (Ori) 46.05m; 5km walk: Vinay Reddy (AP) 29.12.50; Shot put: Akash Soman (Ker) 13.03m; 4x100m relay: Orissa 48.0s.

Girls (seniors): 200m: Manisha Malakar (UP) 28.9s; 80m hurdles: Divya Antony (Ker) 14.4s; Long jump: Maria Jose Alani (Ker) 5.20m; Discus throw: Sree Jaya (NW) 24.95m.

Juniors: 200m: Nirupama Sudarraj (Kar) 25.7; Long jump: Nirupama Sundarraj (Kar) 4.93m; 100m hurdles: K.V. Roshini (AP) 15.2s.

Individual champions: Senior boys: Rahul Kumar (Bihar) 9pts. Junior boys: Akshay Mannanlal (Ker) & Pradip Sarkar (Ori) 10 pts each. Senior girls: Maria Jose Alani (Ker) 14 pts. Junior girls: Nirupama Sunderraj (Kar) 18 pts.
