CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Football Association will organise a qualifying competition for South and West Zones at the Nehru Stadium from November 27 to December 2, as part of the run-up to the Under-15 Manchester United Premier Cup 2008. The Chennai winner will play the winner of the North and East Zone competition to be held in Chandigarh. The eventual winner will represent the country in the main competition in England next year. For the Chennai phase, 16 teams are in the fray and they will be placed in four groups for the initial group-league. The group leaders, determined by points, will qualify for the knock-out phase. The teams: Mumbai FC, Mahindra United FC, Pune FC (WIFA), Goa Sports Academy, Sporting Club de Goa, Salgaocar SC, Velsao Pale (Goa), Providence Gujarat FC, Baraca FC (Gujarat), Sports School (Bangalore), Veterans FRC (Bangalore), Dindigul District Youth Academy (Tamil Nadu), Sports Hostel (Orissa), Sambalpur FA (Orissa), Pondicherry Club (Puducherry) and Viva Kerala (Kerala). — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
