Adilabad tops in Army recruitment

ADILABAD: The heavily disfavouring odds seem not to have deterred youngsters from the backward district of Adilabad from making it to the ranks. This is a conclusion reached on the basis of the fact that it figures among the top ones in terms of number of soldiers recruited in the Army from rural areas in Andhra Pradesh.

The district has in the process come to be considered as a role model for areas that are affected with maladies like poverty and low literacy rate. The consistent performance of youths from this place has come in for high praise from Army officers.

While the city youths have come to prefer white collar jobs that are more fetching than the one in the Armed Forces, it is the rural districts that have become the catchment areas for lower level jobs in the Army. Officers point out that rural youth are better focused than their counterparts in urban areas and cities, a quality that is highly preferred.

For the rural youth to get into the ranks of Army Officers, they need more exposure and orientation in English and their mother tongue for them to be able to express themselves clearly.

This is possible only through special coaching on the lines of the pre-Army selection training given by respective district administrations.

“So far as grooming of youngsters in rural areas is concerned, we are ready to help them out with relevant information on the preparations to be made. We will guide the aspirants on how to train for physical fitness tests besides supply of sample question papers for written exams. In my opinion, a one month training programme at district level is sufficient to groom them for a career in Armed Forces,” said Colonel K.B. Jairaj, Director Recruitment, Army Recruiting Office, Secunderabad.

The Colonel pointed out that guidance can also be sought from other Army Recruiting Offices at Guntur and Visakhapatnam.
