Brazil qualifies

NAGOYA: Brazil defeated Japan on Friday in the women’s World Cup volleyball to secure a berth in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Brazil, which finished the tournament with a 9-2 record, downed Japan 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18 on the final day.

The United States and European champion Italy had already booked spots in the Beijing Games with wins on Thursday.

Italy finished undefeated at 11-0 with a 25-20, 25-18, 27-25 over the U.S. — AP
