CHENNAI: Manan Chandra showed glimpses of good form with back-to-back league match victories in Group ‘G’ in the World snooker championship in Korat, Thailand. According to information reaching here, Chandra, on Friday, beat Itaro Santos of Germany 4-0 (62-36, 73-37, 65-37, 68-15) and on Saturday, he got the better of Thomas Finstad (Canada) 71-14, 52-54, 72-2, 26-66, 69-44, 71-14. The latest win helped him to jump to the second place in the league table. Meanwhile, National champion Alok Kumar defeated France’s Philippe Dos Reis 90-25, 58-24, 24-64, 85-4, 66-18 in Group ‘B.’ In the women’s section, it was good going for Chennai’s Vidya Pillai as she beat Ramona Belmont of New Zealand 40-36, 69-9, 59-42 for her third win in as many outings and she currently tops Group ‘D.’ © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
