Rs. 24.63 crore earmarked for Centrally sponsored schemes

CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Union Government has earmarked Rs. 24.63 crore for its sponsored schemes to develop Chamarajanagar district for the financial year 2007-08. According to a press release by the Publicity Department, Rs. 3 crore would be spend on watershed development such as construction of check-dams, bunds and removal of silt from tanks. Under dry land development scheme, Rs. 5.26 crore had been spent to develop 8,845 hectares of land. Under the drought relief scheme, a total of 99 lakh mandays were produced to facilitate employment for 1,55,220 daily workers. Rs. 1.27 crore had been spent on mechanisation of agriculture, organic farming and purchase of jowar and oil seeds under the scheme. To improve the quality of education in rural areas, Rs.1.08 crore had been earmarked to construct 58 classrooms in the district. Rs. 29 lakh had been released to people Below Poverty Line under the special central aid scheme. Under the Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak scheme, Rs. 6.90 crore had been spent to lay 65 km rural roads.
