TIRUPATI: Netizens of the city are turning out to be restive with ‘DataOne’, the broadband facility of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), getting sluggish since a fortnight. With 3,500 plus broadband connections the educational and commercial centre is on the BSNL priority list of cities, short-listed for its expansion programme. However, the customers had to face a severe inconvenience in the recent past due to a server problem in the Network Operating Centre (NOC), Bangalore. Also, the connecting medium between Tirupati and the Tier-I switch in Vijayawada is also learnt to have developed a glitch, making the connection go off and on, thus testing the patience of the internet customers. New facilityA new multi-play facility was recently commissioned in Tirupati and hence the connections attached to this new network have fortunately remained insulated from this malfunction, while the 2,000 plus customers in the old network are clicking their mouse in vain and staring at the blank screen with hope. When contacted by The Hindu, a senior BSNL official admitted to the error in the network and said that efforts were on to rectify the problem at the earliest. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
