Rs. 68 crore loans to safai karamcharis

MYSORE: The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation, which was constituted under the Companies Act to improve the economic condition of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the State, has said here that it has released Rs. 68.07 crore as loans for the welfare of safai karamcharis.

This was disclosed by the corporation’s managing director Baladeva Krishna who inaugurated a programme organised to create awareness on the need for forming self-help groups for the rehabilitation of safai karamcharis here on Tuesday.

The programme was organised by the corporation and the National Safai Karamchari Finance and Development Corporation, New Delhi.

As many as 27,480 safai karamcharis had availed themselves of loans up to Rs. 2,611.89 lakh from the corporation for self-employment, he said.

The former Mayor, Narayan, called upon the safai karamcharis of Mysore to send their wards to schools.

“This will help improve their social status. Education is must for the wellbeing of the community,” he said.

He stressed the need for establishing a residential school for exclusively imparting education to the children of safai karamcharis.
