Four columns deployed

NEW DELHI: Four columns of the Army were deployed by Wednesday evening in Kolkata, where violence erupted earlier in the day.

The West Bengal government had sought six columns, comprising about 540 troops.

The remaining two columns “tasked” by the Army were on standby.
