Open athletics meet

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will conduct the Open athletics championship for men, women, junior boys and girls on November 30 and December 1.

Entries may be sent to Rajesh Kumar, Secretary, Hyderabad District Athletic Association (9246529013), K.M. Chisty, Organising Secretary (99894 33671), C. Bhaskar Reddy, Treasurer, HDAA (98490 48586). Details may be had from the Director of Sports, GHMC, Tank Bund Complex, Hyderabad during office hours. Competitions will be held in the following events:

Boys’ and girls’ under-16 (born on or after Dec. 2, 1991): 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m.

U-13 (born on or after Dec. 2, 1994): 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m.

U-10 (born on or after Dec. 2, 1997): 100m, 200m, 400m, 600m.

Men and women: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3000m.

Akshay prevails

B. Akshay prevailed over P.V. Venkat 9-7 in an under-12 category first-round match at the KAD Tennis Academy annual tournament for juniors here on Wednesday.

Akshay also advanced to first round in under-14 category along with Ravi Teja, Monish and Anudeep.

Others to move up were Ramakrishna, Venkat, Krishna Narayan, Monisa, Sai Kanth, Bharadwaj, Avinash, Rami, Akhil, Sridhar and Ravikiran in under-12 category, Sai Kanth, Asis, Sujit Sukumar, Mohan Sai, Manohar, Santosh Sriram, Nitesh and Anil Kumar in under-10 event.

SZ varsity volleyball

Forty-eight varsities have confirmed participation in the South Zone inter-university volleyball tournament for men to be held on the Andhra University campus from Dec. 6 to 11.
