Plans to move into Tier-II cities To reduce further panel thickness NEW DELHI: Leading audio-visual company, Hitachi Home Electronics Asia Limited, on Thursday announced the launch of ultra thin LCD series that will be made available in the Indian market by the first quarter of 2008. Addressing a press conference here, Hitachi Managing Director, Tadashi Nishiuchi, said the company aimed to enhance focus on the India high-end LCD market with its next generation super slim LCD televisions. The world’s slimmest LCD panel, just 35 mm slim across the entire panel, is designed for the affluent. It also announced the introduction of its cutting edge full high definition range of plasma and LCD televisions in India. Hitachi Asia company head, Tarun Jain, said as part of the growth plans, the company planned to move into Tier-II cities in a focused manner and undertake a 35 per cent increase in the retail outlets, a 65 per cent increase in the number of Hitachi galleries and 35 per cent expansion in service network. Mr. Jain said Hitachi was already working on reducing the panel thickness further and by 2009, the company would have LCD offering which is merely 19 mm slim.
