GUNTUR: Minister for Tribal Welfare and Rural and Interior Areas Development project Redya Naik said on Friday that the State Government had given the nod for construction of schools in Thandas and Erukula Gudems, where considerable number of children live, under the RIAD project. The project was aimed at increasing the literacy levels in primary level among children living in Girijan hamlets. “Even if there are 10 children in the thanda, we will set up a school,” the Minister told reporters here. The Government had sanctioned five degree colleges in Utukuru, Eturunagaram, Seethampet, Paderu and Chintapalli agency areas. The Government also sanctioned six Girijan girls residential schools across the State, for which it had already sanctioned Rs. 25 crore. Skill developmentThe skill development programmes being taken up with the coordination with youth welfare department have begun to yield the desired results with more than 15,000 unemployed youth securing jobs in various private companies. The Government had allocated Rs.70 crores to various DRDAs for the effective implementation of the programme, he said. The Minister, however, cautioned the District Tribal Welfare Officers of laxity in supervising the implementation of various programmes and functioning of hostels. “We will make the DTWOs responsible if any warden is found committing irregularity,” he said. The Government had hiked the mess charges by 25 per cent, the post-metric scholarships have been hiked from Rs. 525 to Rs.740, cosmetic charges were raised from Rs.20 to Rs.50 for boys and Rs.25 to Rs.75 for girls.
