Kakinada: Governor and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) State president N.D. Tiwari has said that it is time to think beyond politics and set aside partisan attitudes to transform the State into a role model for other states in the country.

“Andhra Pradesh has a good leadership and focus ought to be on alleviating living conditions of the people,” Mr. Tiwari said while addressing the public after inaugurating the IRCS’s blood components unit and the Red Cross Yoga Centre here on Friday.

Mr. Tiwari said collective efforts should be made to develop the State and praised the East Godavari district administration for the steps it took for people’s welfare.

Food habits

However, there should be no reason for complacency if the State were to progress further.

As regards the IRCS activities, Mr. Tiwari said the district branch of the IRCS had always been in the forefront of welfare activities.

He exuded the confidence that it would reach more milestones in future. He advised the people to adopt healthy food habits and do yoga regularly. “Yoga imparts moral, spiritual and ethical values,” he added.

Social Welfare Minister P. Subhas Chandra Bose requested the Governor to visit rural areas of the district also in future to witness the development activities undertaken by the government and offer his valuable suggestions on what more could be done to achieve better results.

District Collector M. Subrahmanyam said that the East Godavari district branch of the IRCS was the second oldest in the State after the one in Secunderabad functioning from 1928. Besides, it was successfully running 15 urban health centres in the district, each centre catering to a population of up to 18,000.

Kakinada Mayor K. Saroja, MLAs – Mutha Gopalakrishna, T. Venkata Narasimham and Dommeti Venkateswarulu – MLC N. Sesha Reddy, IRCS State secretary Lakshman Rao, district secretary Durga Raju and Joint Collector Vijay Kumar were among the dignitaries present.
