Bangalore: The conference on Karnataka sports policy held at the State Youth Centre here on Saturday stressed on developing infrastructure, nurturing talent and timely recognition of medal winners as key ingredients for promoting sport in the State. The conference, attended by leading sportspersons, administrators and coaches, is part of the initiative taken by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) to develop a State legislation that promotes sport. “Sports for all and excellence in sports,” will be the guiding preamble of the proposed policy and it has also been planned to establish a ‘Sports and Exercise Medicine’ centre at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium complex here before 2009. The conference stressed that cash incentives to medal winners — both at the international and National levels — should be disbursed immediately and only a nominal delay of 30 days would be feasible. It also reiterated that physically challenged athletes should be given due recognition and should be treated on par with other athletes while giving incentives.
