Katerina Nemcova defeats Mary Ann Gomes

Antalya: Mary Ann Gomes was defeated in the under-18 girls’ category in the seventh round of the World Youth chess championship here on Saturday.

She got into a bad position against Czech Woman International Master Katerina Nemcova, ran into deep time trouble and lost the game.

Now Mary is in joint lead with Nemcova. The somewhat favourable point for Mary is that the two players on the second table drew their game.

In the under-8 girls, Ivana Furtado won and could be in contention for a medal as she is on 5.5 points.
