Mob goes on a rampage, enforces bandh and loots shops

HINDUPUR: The alleged rape of a minor girl belonging to a particular community by a youth of another community at P. Sadlapalli village in Lepakshi mandal in the district on Saturday led to tension here on Sunday. A mob from the victim’s community went on the rampage to protest against the incident.

The victim’s parents alleged that the girl along with a few other children went to an orchard for collecting firewood, when the owner’s son allegedly caught the victim, dragged her to a secluded corner of the orchard and committed the crime. On being questioned, the girl explained the ordeal suffered by her. Immediately, the victim’s family lodged a complaint with the Lepakshi police and the girl was admitted to the Government hospital here for treatment as well as medical examination. The girl’s family members and a large number of youth of the community took out a procession, enforced a bandh in the town and staged a rasta roko at the Sadbhavana Circle.

On way to Sadbhavana Circle from the Government hospital the mob allegedly looted a few shops belonging to another community in Parigi bus stand area and also hurled stones at passing vehicles. As a result, a few windscreens of two buses and two private vehicles were broken and few stones were also hurled at nearby shops and residences.
