Project for infusing ‘professionalism in politics’ to get global funding

HYDERABAD: Even as the pilot project roping in MBA graduates for assisting legislators in their constituency matters has been launched on Saturday, several international agencies are expressing keen interest in funding the one of its kind project in the country.

Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy said though the project aiming to infuse ‘professionalism in politics’ will be financed by the government for the present, detailed project report will be sent to the international agencies that are showing interest in it. One of the major international advisory bodies, Adam Smith Institute is already involved in designing the project that is being implemented by Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who formally launched the project on a pilot basis in three constituencies, has given a go ahead for enrolment of business administration graduates to assist legislators of all the 294 constituencies by January 15. The focus areas for the MBA graduates, to be recruited on contract basis for one year, will be to strengthen office processes and practices of legislators, streamlining the grievance handling systems and support on policy issues of interest in Legislative and House committee matters to the legislators.

Budgetary support

Participating in a meeting on ‘capacity building in Assembly constituencies’, involving officials from grass-root level in three constituencies Manthani (Telangana), Tenali (coastal Andhra) and Atmakur (Rayalaseema), where the project was launched, Dr. Reddy assured necessary budgetary support to the project.
