Surprise check of meals in schools

NEW DELHI: A surprise check on the state of Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run schools was conducted here on Monday by a special sub-committee headed by Bharatiya Janata Party councillor Mehak Singh. The committee looked into the quality and quantity of mid-day meals and the state of computer education at the municipal primary schools in Civil Lines Zone.

The findings of the sub-committee indicated that the quality and distribution system of mid-day meals were satisfactory and the non-government organisations contracted to provide these meals were also transacting their business efficiently.

Sub-committee chairman Mehak Singh said the main aim of the surprise inspection was to improve the quality, quantity and the system of distribution of mid-day meals.

Sub-committee member and BJP councillor Meera Aggarwal said the MCD provided mid-day meals to about 9.5 lakh children studying in its schools through 11 NGOs. “Efforts are being made to further improve the quality and quantity of the meals ,” she added.
