Pat for Kumble

Bangalore: India’s six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first cricket Test in New Delhi was seen as another feather in Anil Kumble’s cap by cricketing circles here on Monday.

“When Anil led in an ODI (against England at Chennai in 2002), India had won that match too (by four wickets) and now as the Test skipper, he has notched up a victory in his first game.

“Hope he maintains this 100 per cent record of victories. Credit to the team, especially the bowlers,” KSCA Secretary and former India player, Brijesh Patel, said.

Meanwhile, another former India cricketer, who refused to be named, said: “I guess only Ravi Shastri has won a Test match as skipper in the very first game he led in (against the West Indies), way back in the late 80s.

“Anil has made a positive start and unlike other bowler-captains, he neither over-bowled or under-bowled himself and conducted himself in tune with the demands of the situation.” — Principal Correspondent
