Thiruvananthapuram in last four

THALASSERY: Defending champion Thiruvananthapuram and runner-up SAI, Kollam, Thrissur and Kollam completed the semifinal line-up in the 53rd State Senior men’s hockey championship at the Municipal stadium here on Monday. Thiruvananthapuram topped Pool ‘A’ and will meet Thrissur, which edged out host Kannur on better goal average to win Pool ‘C’, in the semifinals. The group ‘B’ winner SAI, Kollam will take on Kollam in the other semifinal.

The results: Pool ‘A’: Thiruvananthapuram bt Idukki 4-0; Palakkad bt Alappuzha 3-0; Thiruvananthapuram bt Alappuzha 8-0. Pool ‘B’: Kollam bt Kasaragod 3-0; Kozhikode bt Malappuram 3-0; Kollam bt Kozhikode 3-0; Malappuram bt Kozhikode 1-0. Pool ‘C’: Kannur drew with Thrissur 0-0; Kottayam bt Pathanamthitta 4-1 Pool ‘D’: SAI, Kollam bt Ernakulam 2-0; SAI, Klm bt Wayanad 3-0.
