Antalya: In the under-8 girls’ category of the World Youth chess championship, reigning World champion, Ivana Furtado of Goa defeated her Vietnamese opponent Thanh Thuy Tien Nguyen on the 68th move in the ninth round on Monday. On Sunday night Vidit Gujrathi scored an important victory beating the leader Sanan Sjugirov of Russia and took a half-a-point lead. In the ninth round he had a good position against Chinas Wang Chen. But an unwise push with the g-pawn made his castled position shaky. He lost two pawns and the game. In the under-8 girls, Mary Ann Gomes lost her second game in a row to lag one point behind the leader Nemcova of the Czech Republic.
