Prakash, Shiva notch up white slams

KOCHI: LIC’s Prakash Gaekwad and RBI’s G. Shiva scored ‘white slams’ and gave the ninth National institutional carrom championship a stunning start at the Regional Sports Centre here on Tuesday.

Prakash’s feat came against NABARD’s R.C. Choudhury, while Shiva made his winning sweep against BSNL’s S.T. Sawant in the men’s team championship’s league games. Both LIC and RBI won their matches 2-1.

Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams inaugurated the five-day event at a function presided over by J. Anilkumar, Senior Divisional Manager of LIC, Ernakulam Division.

The results (league): Men: RBI bt BSNL 2-1, LIC bt NABARD 2-1, Indian Airlines bt BSNL 3-0, BSB bt DASCB 3-0.

Women: IAAD bt PSPB 3-0, LIC bt DASCB 3-0, RBI bt BSNL 2-1, BSB bt NABARD 3-0, IAAD bt BSNL 2-1, LIC bt NABARD 3-0, RBI bt PSPB 2-1. — Principal Correspondent
