Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Ramachandrapuram) clinches hockey title

HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Ramachandrapuram) won the 4th inter-schools hockey tournament for the V. Purushotham Memorial Trophy surprising defending champion Moulana Azad Memorial High School 2-0 in the final at Gymkhana Grounds here on Tuesday.

Dilip struck the first goal in the fourth minute of first-half and in the 25th minute Vasanth completed the tally.

V. Dinesh Reddy, IPS and president of Hyderabad Hockey Association, Sumita Dawra, IAS, N. Shivlal Yadav, HCA secretary, gave away the prizes.

Dhanraj XI scored a 2-0 win over Tarnaka Club XI in the inaugural match of the Susai memorial football tournament, organised by Shastri Soccer Club, at Trimulgherry Grounds here. After a barren first-half, Dhanraj XI took the lead in the 12th minute when Rahul converted a penalty kick. Eight minutes later, Arvind scored.

Good spell by Ananth (five for 38) helped Hyderabad Bottling score a convincing, 123-run win over Falaknuma in the A-Division (one-day) knock-out cricket tournament here.

The scores: Hyderabad Bottling 253 for seven (Arvind 68) bt Falaknuma 130 (Ananth five for 38).

Wipro lifted the Corporate Premiership – 2007 cricket tournament organized by Sports Unllimited at the L.B. Stadium recently.

Wipro beat Karvy by four wickets in the final. Chief Guest, former table tennis player Arjuna Awardee Mir Khasim Ali and Anand Battu M.D. of TechPoint Solutions gave away the Trophies.

The scores: Karvy 77 lost to Wipro 78 for six.

Cynthia defeated Samantha 21-2, 21-1 in the women’s singles badminton preliminary round of the third JDA Corporate Olympiad badminton and table tennis tournament here.
