KOLKATA: Injury problems loomed large over the Pakistan team with Shoaib Akhtar added to the injury list. Akhtar along with the injured captain Shoaib Malik and Misbah-ul-Haq were taken to a city hospital where they received treatment on Tuesday evening. The Pakistan team media manager Ehsan Malik said, “Shoaib Malik has been diagnosed with a grade 1 ankle sprain, which is a minimal injury and does not seem to be serious and he should be okay in a few days.” He said that Shoaib Akhtar and Misbah-ul-Haq were down with cold and fever. “All three cricketers were examined by doctors and they are okay, but Akhtar will take a few days to recover,” he added. He said that “there is nothing to worry about the three players and they should be fine with rest.” According to a spokesperson of the Apollo Hospitals where the players were treated, Akhtar is likely to have a prolonged stay in the hospital. “We are still waiting for doctors to come and confirm what exactly has happened to Akhtar and whether he needs to stay overnight at the hospital,” the spokesperson said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
