Kerala emerges overall champion

VIJAYAWADA: Kerala emerged overall champion with an impressive haul of 77 medals (37 gold, 26 silver and 14 bronze) in the Reliance 23rd junior National athletics championship that concluded at the IGMC stadium here on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu finished second with 52 medals (13 gold, 16 silver, 23 bronze), while Haryana took the third place with 37 medals.

The final day witnessed saw records from Haryana’s Sudhir Kumar (U-18 boys’ long jump), Delhi’s Arjun Kumar (boys u-16 discus), Gujarat’s Avdesh Kumar (boys u-20 3000m steeplechase) and U.P.’s Krishna Kumar Patel (boys u-18 javelin).

Boys: U-20: 10,000m: 1. Anand Kumar (Jhk) 32:45.93s, 2. Ravindra Singh (Guj), 3. D. Singh (Har); 4x 400m relay: 1. Tamil Nadu (3:56.87s), 2. Kerala, 3. Andhra Pradesh; 3000m steeplechase: 1. Avdesh Kumar (Guj) 9:42.24s (NMR), 2. Md. Ather Imam (U.P.), 3. Nandgopal (Kar).
