Antalya: Ivana Furtado from Goa took the sole lead at the end of the 10th and penultimate round of the World under-8 girls’ chess championship on Tuesday. After Ivana had defeated the Vietnamese leader on Monday night, Gunay Mammadzada of Azerbaijan joined her in the lead. But on Tuesday, Ivana and Mammadzada battled it out for the sole lead and Ivana proved superior. She won two pawns and reached a rook and minor piece ending which was easy to win. In the under-14 section, both Sethuraman and Prasanna Rao lost leaving Vidit Gujrathi to fight for a medal. Vidit has an inferior ending to handle. In the under-12 girls’ section, leader Marsel Efroimski of Israel was defeated by China’s Quo Qi. Important results (10th round): Boys: U-8: Harshal Shahi 7 bt N. Hristo (Bul); U-10: A.
