Forum launches postcard campaign against Sakrama

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Opposing the State Government’s Sakrama scheme, Citizens’ Action Forum is launching a postcard campaign addressed to the Governor Rameshwar Thakur.

The Forum, which had already contacted more than 800 residents’ welfare associations to request their members to reject the scheme, had asked all people who were opposed to the scheme to write a message on a postcard and post it to the Governor directly.

“We request like-minded people to spend 50 paise on a postcard and five minutes on scribbling a message. This is to pressure Governor Rameshwar Thakur to keep the scheme in abeyance till a new Government is formed. The Governor is legally empowered to do that,” N.S. Mukunda, president of Citizens’ Action Forum, told The Hindu on Wednesday.

The forum will hold a meeting of over 1,000 residents’ welfare associations in the city on December 10 or 11 and adopt a resolution demanding that the withdrawal of the scheme.

“We will meet the Governor and his advisor Krishna Kumar and apprise them about the problems people are facing because of the implementation of the scheme,” Mr. Mukunda said.

Details can be had on phone: 26699085 or 9343796807.

Padayatra

Demanding that the high penalty rates under Sakrama scheme be reduced and the December 14 deadline be withdrawn, representatives of more than 200 residents’ welfare associations will take out a padayatra from Whitefield to Raj Bhavan on December 1.

The protesters under the aegis of Lok Paritran, will march from the K.R. Puram hanging bridge and walk via A. Narayanapura, Pai Layout, Kaggadasapura, Malleshpalya, G.M. Palya, BEML Entrance, Tippasandra, CMH Road, Cambridge Road and Ulsoor to reach Raj Bhavan.

B.T. Naganna, president of Lok Paritran, told The Hindu that the padayatra would reach Chinnaswamy Stadium on Cubbon Road at around 2.30 p.m.

“Interested people can join us near the stadium. A few delegates will then march to the Raj Bhavan and submit a memorandum to the Governor Rameshwar Thakur,” he added.
