Taken up under JNNURM, they will be completed in six months VISAKHAPATNAM: Work on regularisation and improving the Yerrigedda drain under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission was formally launched here on Wednesday with Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy laying the stone. Stating that the drain crisscrossing the city was overflowing when monsoon struck, the Minister assured residents that the entire work costing Rs.9.2 crores would be completed in six months putting an end to flooding of several areas, mainly Gnanapuram and Sebastian Colony. Mr. Subbarami Reddy said as part of the work along a stretch of 1.236 km, RCC ramps and retaining walls would be constructed. MLA Saripalli Ranga Raju said a permanent solution would be found to the flooding by the gedda covering one-thirds of the city if the Port Trust also took up construction of three culverts on its part. Once completed, the work would put an end to the three decades of suffering of the residents. Minister for Ports and Infrastructure M. Venkataramana Rao, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, S.
