Firm resolve: More than 1,100 girls from government schools taking oath not to drop out from school at the Chandrayangutta Muncipal grounds on Wednesday. HYDERABAD: Their eagerness and competitiveness certainly seemed to be overflowing given the fact that such events and platforms at that level are seldom available for them in old city. Excited lotThe girls were spontaneous in taking the oath of not to drop out from their school. They queued up with zeal at Origami, essay writing and painting competition counters. They jostled with each other, in a merry sportive way, to be the first to win goodies up for grabs. The venue just reverberated with their excited squeals. One could easily discern their hesitation and trepidation when the facilitators asked them to step onto the dais and relate their school experiences. However, once they got over the initial hiccups, it was one helluva interaction. Jokes were cracked, songs were sung and poems were written instantly and read. ‘Sunn-Saheli-Sunn’, a programme organised by Naandi foundation to motivate girl child to pursue education up to Class X at Chandrayangutta Municipal Grounds on Wednesday, saw over 1,500 girl students from various Government schools in the old city, sharing their experiences on a host of issues concerning them. “I have never met so many girls of my age at one place. The guides here are encouraging us to complete education till Class X. I am coming to such a meet for the first time and it’s a good learning experience for us,” says Fauzia Begum from Government Primary School of Falaknuma. Happy interaction“I liked Mehendi, Origami and drawing competitions. We also took oath to continue our studies till Class X. There are so many students here with whom we can talk to. I felt happy to interact with dancer Ananda Shankar,” said Mumtaz Begum, an excited student from Chandrayangutta Government Primary school. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
