FOR VIOLATION: CMDA workers demolishing parts of a building on Sarangapani Street, T.Nagar, in Chennai on Thursday.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Thursday demolished parts of a residential building under construction on Sarangapani Street, T. Nagar, on grounds of deviation from the approved plan.

A small room on the fifth floor was demolished.

A CMDA official said that the approval sought was for a residential building with three storeys and a basement floor. The demolition of the fourth floor of the building was, however, put on hold after the builder furnished documents claiming that the construction was not a violation. The documents would be placed before the Monitoring Committee.

Following the High Court quashing the ordinance maintaining status quo on unauthorised constructions, more such demolitions are likely to be carried out, officials said.
