HYDERABAD: BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy on Friday sought the intervention of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in ensuring that the nationalised banks fulfilled their social responsibility by sanctioning loans to beneficiaries of Government schemes. Mr. Reddy submitted details of the poor lending position of banks this year in a memorandum to SHRC Chairman Justice B. Subhashan Reddy. The MLA narrated that the banks flouted Reserve Bank of India guidelines while denying the loans. Going back on guidelines, they insisted on security for loans below Rs. 50,000. The beneficiaries frequented banks and Government offices unable to get loans. They did not get a proper response from officials at both places. The conduct of officials violated the right to life guaranteed by Constitution, he said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
