Shivanandan wins

MANGALORE: Shivanandan B.S. (8.5) won the state-level rapid chess tournament organised by the South Kanara District Chess Association here on Sunday. Shivanandan drew with Vijendra Y.G. (8) to end on par with Kamataki Abhay (8.5).

Although Abhay got past Sanjay N. (7.5) in the tenth and final round, Shivanandan (2381) grabbed the top spot with a better progressive compared to Abhay (2143). Vijendra, Deepak Kumar Payeng, Abhijith Pran — all on eight points — finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
