NEW DELHI: Namdhari XI defeated Bharat Petroleum 3-1 in the tie-breaker after a goalless regulation period and extra time to enter the final of the Lal Bahadur Shastri hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Sunday. The Namdharis will meet Punjab National Bank in Monday’s final. After a barren regulation period in which BPCL wasted two penalty corners against Namdhari XI’s three, BPCL fared miserably in the tie-breaker, converting only one of the four ‘strokes’ it took. For Namdhari XI, Gurcharan Singh, Sher Singh and Gurvinder Singh were the scorers, while Amolak Singh and Harpal Singh failed. BPCL’s lone goal came through Amar Aiyamma after three successive failures by Gurpreet Singh, Irshad Ali and Puneet. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
