Pradeep shines for St. Paul’s

KOCHI: Pradeep Kumar took five wickets for four runs as host St. Paul’s College drubbed DB College (Parumala) by nine wickets in the Mahatma Gandhi University inter-zone cricket championship at Kalamassery on Monday.

The scores: DB, Parumala 50 in 11.3 overs (Pradeep Kumar five for 4) lost to St. Paul’s, Kalamassery 51 for one in 7.4 overs.

Govt. Engineering College, Painav, Idukki 70 in 16 overs (Sonal four for 4) lost to Maharaja’s, Ernakulam 72 for no loss in 8.4 overs (Mejo 32 n.o.).

Fancy Fabrics posts win

At Thrissur, Fancy Fabrics Challengers CC and Prudential CC recorded wins in the fifth Santosh Menon memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament on Monday.

Fancy Fabrics Challengers edged out United CC (Kaipamangalam) by one-wicket, while Prudential CC got a walk over from Pachalam CC.

The scores: United CC (Kaipamangalam) 129 in 21.4 overs (Sivaprasad three for nine, Visej three for 32) lost to Fancy Fabrics Challengers CC 130 for nine in 22 overs (Shabir three for 30).

Girideepam Bethany triumphs

In Kottayam, Girideepam Bethany won the title in the second Girideepam all-India inter-school volleyball tournament at the Girideepam courts on Monday.

In the final, Girideepam defeated G.V. Raja Sports School (Thiruvananthapuram) 25-19, 28-26, 25-20 in the final.

Other results: Semifinals: Girideepam bt CSHSS (Thrissur) 25-20, 25-14, 25-18; G.V. Raja bt CHSS (Chandrappinni) 25-18, 25-17, 25-13.

Special awards: Best player: Marshal Thomas (Girideepam); Best attacker: P.P. Mohammed (GV Raja); Best setter: Tinu Antony (Girideepam).
