Navy Day celebrated

New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L. K. Advani and a host of dignitaries on Tuesday attended a reception at Navy House here on Navy Day.

Defence Minister A. K. Antony, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Service Chiefs, top Defence Ministry officials and diplomats were present at the at home hosted by Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta.

Pay homage

Earlier, the Service Chiefs, Admiral Mehta, Chief of the Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major, paid homage at the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Commemorating attack

Every year, the Navy celebrates December 4 as Navy Day to commemorate its attack on the Karachi harbour during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. — PTI, ANI
