Double for Maria

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Maria Rony (Alappuzha) hogged the limelight by winning a double in the Kerala State table tennis championship at the Jimmy George indoor stadium here on Tuesday.

Maria won the singles titles in sub-junior and cadet girls’ sections respectively. She defeated Reshma Susan (Ekm) in both the finals.

The results: Boys: Sub-juniors (final): S. Sundar (Alp) bt Rahul Binu Mathew (Alp) 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-8.

Semifinals: Sundar bt Dany B. Daniel (Alp) 11-2, 11-9, 11-7; Rahul bt Ranjith Benny (Tvm) 11-6, 14-12, 11-4.

Cadet (final): M. Unnikrishnan (Tvm) bt Renjith Benny (Tvm) 9-11, 15-17, 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.

Semifinals: Unnikrishnan bt Rishwhin Jackson (Ekm) 11-7, 11-7, 11-9; Renjith bt Kurian Kurian (Ekm) 11-8, 11-8, 11-5.

Team championship: Sub-junior (final): Thiruvananthapuram bt Ernakulam 3-1. Semifinals: Ernakulam bt Kozhikode 3-0; Thiruvananthapuram bt Alappuzha 3-0.

Girls: Sub-junior (final): Maria Rony (Alp) bt Reshma Susan (Ekm) 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6.

Semifinals: Maria bt Anjali S. Nair (Tvm) 11-6, 11-7, 11-8; Reshma bt Aneesha Ganesh (Idk) 13-11, 11-8, 11-9.
