Court directive to doctors

Hyderabad: The Division Bench of the A.P. High Court on Friday said doctors need to be given the dignity and security befitting their profession, but then the form of protest should not play with the lives of innocents.

The Bench said that if the problems were brought before the court, they could be addressed within the gamut of the law. The Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan was making these oral observations while dealing with the writ petition filed on the issue of the junior doctors’ strike.

The Government filed a detailed report before the court and submitted that alternative arrangements were in place.The Advocate General said this was due to adverse publicity in the media. He said the issue was likely to be resolved within a day or two. He said though he did not support the strike, the grievances can be understood. The Bench reacted to this saying that the doctors’ situation was understandable. But, doctors and lawyers could strike work like factory employees. If the strike continued, the Medical Council of India should be addressed for a solution, it said, adjourning the case to Tuesday.
