A carnival of arts and cultures

As part of the ongoing Delhi International Arts Festival, a week-long exhibition of Pahari and Rajasthani miniatures and Nepali and Tibetan thangkas opens at the Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts here beginning December 17. The exhibition is being organised by Osian’s. Other works from Indian modern and contemporary art will also be on display.

Pahari and Rajasthani craft

The Pahari and Rajasthani miniatures will include exquisite works from the Kangra, Mandi, Mewar, Kota and Kishangarh schools of art. The thangkas on display are mostly from the 12th to 18th Centuries and have been acquired from the famed Jucker Collection of the United States, one of the finest collections of such art in the world.

Some of the artists on view include George Keyt, K.C.S. Paniker, Chittaprosad, Bikash Bhattacharjee, Ganesh Pyne, Satish Gujral, Anjolie Ela Menon, Nandlal Bose, Ramkumar, F.N. Souza, Akbar Padamsee and Laxma Goud.

International event

The Delhi International Arts Festival is an international event aimed at making the national Capital a major destination for cultural tourists from all over the world. The Festival is being supported by Osian’s -- Connoisseurs of Art, an organisation that has recently forayed into new fields of art such as Japanese Samurai helmets and armours, Ningyo dolls, African tribal masks, Polish film posters, Chinese and Soviet political propaganda artefacts and magic memorabilia.
