Displaced shopkeepers obstruct road works

KURNOOL: The shopkeepers being displaced by widening programme for four-lane road obstructed the work here on Tuesday. CPI(M) leaders T. Shadrak and others joined the stir in support of the victims.

Mr. Shadrak said injustice was done to the shopkeepers in awarding the compensation.

The prime commercial land was classified as agriculture land and no compensation was considered for structures. While the market value of the land was around Rs 7 lakh per cent, the government recommended only Rs 7,000 per cent.

Appeal

He urged the government to rehabilitate all displaced shopkeepers who were automobile workers by setting up an Autonagar.

The land should be allotted at subsidized price since the actual loss to the victims was not taken into consideration.
