Son is innocent, say parents

NEW DELHI: Even as the police were trying to trace the father of one of the boys charged under the Arms Act in the Gurgaon school shooting case, the parents of the other accused maintained that their son was “innocent.”

“The revolver used in the murder is believed to be registered in the name of the father and we are looking for him,” said a senior police officer.

However, in a telephonic conservation with an English news channel, the father claimed that the revolver used in Tuesday’s incident belonged to his friend who had a licence for it. While calling the shooting a blunder by his son, he lamented the death of Abhishek Tyagi. He declined to say when he would surrender.

Meanwhile, parents of the other accused, appearing on the same channel, blamed the school authorities for not informing them of the fight between the boys.

“My son is innocent. We believe the school is responsible. The principal never told us anything about the fight between the boys. We were never asked to come for any meeting,” said his father. He said his son was an “obedient” boy, who was interested in sports and games.

“We feel sad about the boy who was killed ... I was shocked when I heard about the incident. I do not believe that my son did it,” he told the channel. “I was in Rajasthan at the time of incident. I was told about the incident by one of our relatives over telephone,” he said, adding he was into farming and was not a property dealer.

He maintained that he had never met the victim or the family of the other accused and they had no enmity with anyone.

The boy’s mother claimed that her son was being framed.

Reacting to the accusations, the school authorities said they could not recall any instance of fight between the accused and the victim. “There could be a minor altercation among the three, but never a major fight. There was never anything serious between them that could be reported to the parents,” said a school representative.
