PUDUKOTTAI: A comprehensive web site on a total of 5,000 blood donors of the district registered with the Blood Bank at the Government District Headquarters Hospital here has been catering to the emergency needs of the sick and others, Collector D. Uthirakkumaran said here on Friday. At a function to mark the valediction of the ‘National Voluntary Blood Donation Day’ here, Mr. Uthirakkumaran said the web site furnished details of the donors such as name, blood group and other information required. Blood donation campsThe blood bank organised 53 blood donation camps during 2007 and collected 1,819 units of blood, he said. Underlining the importance of blood donation, he appealed to eligible persons to donate blood voluntarily. Medical Officer of the blood bank G. Edwin said 15 blood donation camps were conducted as part of the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day since October 1. The Collector released a booklet on ‘Blood donation’ on the occasion. He distributed prizes to J. J. College of Arts and Science, whose students donated a maximum of 358 units of blood during 2007 followed by Sri Venkateswara Polytechnic (165 units). Prizes for the Blood Donors’ Club in Arimalam whose members donated 88 units and LT Group of employees (82 units) were also distributed on the occasion. Principal of H. H. The Rajah’s College V.
