Awards given away to five artistes

RECOGNITION: Minister for Animal Husbandry P. Geetha Jeevan presenting an award to an artiste.

Tuticorin: Minister for Animal Husbandry P. Geetha Jeevan gave away awards to five artistes in the district, at a function organised to celebrate 126th birthday anniversary of Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharati near here on Friday.

While S. Anusiya received the ‘Kalai Ilaimani’ award, S. Manthira Mariappan and V. Annalakshmi bagged the ‘Kalai Valarmani’ and ‘Kalai Chudarmani’ awards, respectively.

T. Nalayini and K. Gandhidevar walked away with the ‘Kalai Nanmani’ and ‘Kalai Muthumani’ awards, respectively.

Each of the awardees received cash award of Rs.2,000, a shield and a citation.

Official sources said that the awards were instituted by the Department of Arts and Culture to recognise the contributions of various artists to the fields of traditional art forms.

Ms. Jeevan also disbursed financial assistances, etc. to 20 persons under various government sponsored schemes.

Collector R. Palaniyandi and Regional Assistant Director of Department of Arts and Culture R. Muthu were present.
