Gandhi Silk CC takes honours

Madurai: Gandhi Silk Cricket Club lifted the Rajadurai Amabalam Thavamani Ammal memorial Trophy, defeating Le-Chatelier Cricket Club by five wickets, in the District-level Twenty20 cricket tournament, organised jointly by Freak Sports and Majestic groups, here on Sunday.

Special awards: Batsman: Santhosh Gopi (Le-Chatelier CC). Bowler: Ganesh (Le-Chatelier CC). All rounder: Saravana Sundareswaran (Majestic CC). Promising youngster: Prasanna Venkatesh (TVS Srichakra CC).

The scores: Final: Le-Chatelier CC 81 in 19.4 overs (Karthik 30, Muthupandy four for nine) lost to Gandhi Silk CC 83 for five in 14.3 overs.

Semifinals: TVS Srichakra CC 119 for eight in 20 overs (Hariraj 37) lost to Gandhi Silk CC 121 for five in 17.4 overs (Arun Karthik 34 not out, Subhas 40 not out).

Le-Chatelier CC 132 for seven in 20 overs (Sethuraman 30) bt Melur CC 44 in 11.4 overs.

M.J. Rajesh of Madurai Union Club beat D.M. Sabarinath of Southern Railway 150-71, 150-41 to enter the quarterfinals of the Madurai Union Club’s 125th year District-level billiards-ranking tournament in Madurai on Sunday.

A winter hockey coaching camp will be organised by the Madurai District Hockey Association at Ellis Nagar Hockey ground in Madurai from December 22 to January 2.

Players from schools, colleges and clubs in Madurai and surrounding places may participate. Free coaching will be given for the players in the mornings. Players from this camp will be selected for the Special Development Hockey Centre at Ellis Nagar Hockey ground, Madurai.

The selected players will be given the kit and daily allowance for attending the special coaching in the centre in the evenings and priority for playing in the tournaments.

Eleven Stars Cricket Club beat Vaigai Cricket Club by three wickets in the Canara Bank-Dindigul District Cricket Association second division league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores: Second division: Vaigai CC 123 in 21.1 overs (M. Kumarasamy 40, S. Gokul three for 22) lost to Eleven Stars CC 124 for seven in 21 overs.

Third division: NPR Arts and Science College, Natham 71 in 17.2 overs (Ramraj 39, Mahesh three for 10, Williams three for 16) lost to Mansur CC 72 for no loss in 6.4 overs (R.
